Abbey Road

Also this week in class we listened to the Beatles album called Abbey Road,  I thought it was really good, but I think the white album is better. This album is more focused and the songs kind of relate to each other and sound similar. I don't think there was a weak song in this album,  they were all pretty good. I think my favorite song was come together, it was a really random song and didn't really make sense to me, but it sounded so good.

The White Album

In class this  week we listened to the Beatles White album, and I think its my favorite Beatles album we have  listened to. It was a very long album, it was like 3 times as long compared to there normal albums. There are so many great songs on this album, I thought the all of the first seven songs were amazing, I think my favorite is Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. this album is all over the place, the songs are we random, but they are good.

Led Zeppelin

A couple of days ago in class we listened to one of the Led Zeppelin albums, I didn't really like it that much. I did like a couple of their songs, like Good Times Bad Times, but most of the songs felt really long and I didn't care for them much. I think there was too much guitar and not enough singing, and I also don't like guitar solos that much. Maybe if  was more singing I would like them better.  Also today in class we watched Led Zeppelin perform, and I thought the guitar solo where the guy used a violin strum thing was really cool, even though I don't ready like guitar solos that much, I did like some of theirs.

GTA V

Recently I have been playing a lot of Grand Theft Auto five, and its amazing. While driving cars in the game you get to pick out what kind of music you listen to, and I think that the music for the game is very good, they have many types of music and its all of good quality. The maker's of the game hired professional artist to create some of the music. When I am driving I always go to the west coast classics channel,  which is all rap, and most of the songs are by Snoop Dog, 2Pac, Dr. Dre, and N.W.A. I feel like this rap music really goes well with the game as you are committing crimes and killing people. I think all of the Grand theft auto games have had pretty good music, but this music has especially stood out.

It Might Get Loud

Today in class we watched another movie called It Might Get Loud, I thought that it was an okay movie, it would have been better if I had more of an interest in guitar and understood how to play it. I thought that it was really cool learning how many different ways they could tune their guitars to make sound a certain way. I liked some of the music the youngest person of the three guys played, but most of it I though was bad. I thought that the two oldest guys were really good and I liked sky of their music. At the end of the movie listening to all of them play together was awesome.

Concerts

I have never been to a concert in my whole life, I think that the main reason I haven't been to one is because I've just been to lazy to actually buy a ticket. I don't really listen to music that much outside of the music class, so I don't really have that much of an interest in going to concerts, and I haven't been looking for concerts to go to. I don't really like being in big crowds, and I haven't ruined my ears yet from listening to really loud music. Next year I might go to ACL because it has many different artists and types of music. I'm sure I'll eventually go to a concert.

Magical Mystery Tour

This week in class we listen to another Beatles album, the Magical Mystery Tour, I thought that is was really good, at least the part we listened to. The second half of the album was amazing, there were so many good songs, like I am a walrus,  Penny Lane, Baby you're a rich man and All you need is love. The movie/music videos, were pretty weird but interesting.

Sgt. Pepper's

Today in class we listened to another Beatles album called Sgt. Pepper's and I thought it was good, there were a lot of songs in the album that I really liked,  but there were also songs I didn't care for. I really liked the first song, Lucy in the sky with diamonds, Getting Better and when I'm sixty four. I think that Pet Sounds was a better album, but this was still really good. I also thought that all of the animal noises at the end of the album were really cool because they were honoring Pet Sounds.

Pet Sounds

This week on Wednesday we listened one of the Beach Boys' albums called Pet Sounds, I thought that it was really good. Their music sounds awesome, their voices good and I like the beat and sounds of the instruments they use. I'm not surprised that the Beatles felt like this album outdid theirs. I think that I still like the Beatles more the Beach Boys, I don't think that I have listened to enough of the Beach Boys though, maybe after I listen to more of the Beach Boys I will like them over the Beatles.

Revolver and Rubber Soul

Today in class we listed to two of the Beatles albums, Revolver and Rubber Soul, they were a lot different than their previous albums, but they still were good albums. The first song in rubber soul sounded like a normal song by the Beatles, then second song was still about a girl but it was a lot different because the girl was the dominant figure, and the rest of the album just got weirder and weirder. I liked Revolver, I thought  the use of the sitar was really cool. I think that Yellow Submarine is a really good song, it was interesting hearing Ringo sing and the song is really catchy, I don't know why half the class didn't like it.

Cat Stevens

This week, in film analysis we watched Harold and Maude, and it was a pretty weird movie but surprisingly I liked, I think because it was funny and interesting. The movie is about a teenager who lives in a rich family, and he is constantly is doing fake suicide attempts and has no friends, one day meets this crazy old lady and befriends her and eventually falls in love with her. Many of Cat Stevens songs are in this movie, and his music sounded really good, so I went on YouTube and listened to a lot his music. He has a really good and cool voice and his song lyrics are meaningful and interesting. Hopefully I can find some more music by him.

Music on the Radio

Music on the radio is pretty bad, sadly I have to listen to in my car because I have been putting off getting an ox chord for the past year. Half the time the radio stations are on commercial, and when they're not on commercial they are playing some annoying repetitive song that always seems to be playing. If I actually hear at least one song that I like, I'm pleased. Maybe I'll go buy an ox chord.

The Beatles' movie Help

In class on Tuesday,  we watched another Beatles movie called Help, and I didn't think it was as bad as most people in class said it was. The movie was a lot different compared to the other Beatles movies we've seen, I think it felt different because it was in color and the plot was ridiculous. I didn't understand most of the jokes that were happening, but I'm sure the people who watched it, about 50 years,  thought it was really funny. I liked the music that was being played in the movie, and I thought it was cool how some of the background music in the beginning sounded like James Bond and the Beatles' music mixed.

Beatles for Sale

This week in history of rock and roll we listened to most of one of the Beatles albums called Beatles for sale, and even though it wasn't one of their best albums I still thought that it was very good. It seemed like it was one of their darker albums, the first song I'm a Loser really showed that. Also album cover showed that they were tired while making it. I really like the Beatles and it's amazing that they accomplished 4 (I think) albums in only 20 months, and each album was very good.

The Who

This week on Wednesday in history of rock and roll we listened one of The Who albums and it was okay. It was a lot better than the rolling stones album but not as good as the Beatles. There were a couple songs that I liked, one of the songs I liked was my generation. I thought that the stuttering was pretty cool, and their voices were good too. I have listened to The Who before and I think that they have some really good songs.

What is Rock and Roll?

What is Rock and Roll? I don't think that there is one specific definition defining what rock and roll is. I think that it has to have a specific sound, but I don't know how to describe it. The guitar, drums and piano are the main insturments to me that create the sound of rock and roll.  Every person has a different view on what it is.

The Rolling Stones

On Thursday in class we listened to the Rolling Stones' first album and it was horrible. The first two songs were decent, but as the album went in it got worse and worst. All of the songs sounded relatively the same and they sounded like they were just randomly banging there instruments. Also the whistling and harmonica were too loud and obnoxious.

Music I have been listening to

This week I have started to listen to some of Phoenix's music, I think that it is pretty good. I can't believe that they performed at our school, I wish that I could have gone. I have also been listening the Beatles on my own out of class, I listened to various songs randomly out of some of their albums, I really like their song called Revolution.

Beatles Movie

Yesterday in class we watched another Beatles movie. I thought that it was very interesting learning about how the Beatles became the Beatles. I couldn't imagine going to another country to perform while still being in high school. Its amazing how they all some how ended up with  each other. I look forward to finishing the movie and listening to more of the Beatles.

This Week in Class

On Monday, we watched Shut Up and Play the Hits, and I didn't like. There were some funny parts, but mostly it was pretty boring. I only liked one of their songs, and that was the one with Reggie Watts. On Wednesday we talked about ACL and some random artists. I'm not going to ACL this week, but I might go next week. I really liked Reggie Watts, I think he is a good singer and he is hilarious. If I were to go to ACL, on Friday, I the main performances I would want to see are fun and muse. It would be interesting to see The Blind Boys of Alabama perform.

Shwayze

Today I listened to one of Shwayze's albums,  I think it was just called Shwayze, and I thought it was great. I don't think there was song that I didn't like. Shwayze's lyrics are pretty interesting, and the lyrics of most of their songs aren't too repetitive. I thought that the drumming sounded good. Some of my favorite songs in this album are Buzzin, Corona and Lime, and High Together. I really enjoy Shwayze's music and I'm looking forward to listening to more of it.

A Hard Day's Night Movie

In class this week we watched the Beatles movie called A Hard Day's Night. I actually enjoyed watching this movie, I liked that all of the songs in the movie were by the Beatles. I really like the songs they preformed,  most of them I had heard before but a few were new to me and I though they were good. I also though it was funny,  I got most of their humor. I found it interesting how humor changes as the years go by. I enjoy learning about the Beatles.

Kid Cudi- Man in the Moon

This week,  I have been listening to one of Kid Cudi's albums called Man on the Moon. I really like this album, I enjoyed listening to almost every song, almost all of them very good.         His songs don't have to much repetition of the same lyrics like most popular songs on the radio now a days. Kid Cudi has become one of my favorite rappers, looking forward to listening to more of his music.

With the Beatles

In class on Wednesday we listened to one of the Beatles' albums, With the Beatles. I really liked this album, it was cool how they sang some Motown songs. I really liked the song You really got a hold on me, it won't be long and hold me tight. I can't decide which version of "you really got a hold on me" better, the Motown or Beatles,  they are both really good. Looking forward to listening and learning more about the Beatles.

Motown

In class on monday we listened to and learned about Motown. Surprisingly I enjoyed most of the music, their music is very catchy, it got stuck my head. Some of the songs I really liked were "You Really Got A Hold On Me"and my girl. I'm looking forward to finding and listening to more Motown.

The Beatles Movie

In class on Tuesday, we watched a movie on the Beatles, I thought that it was very interesting and cool. It's amazing how popular they were.  I'm surprised that they could perform with all of those people yelling super loud,  it was ridiculous. I liked how the video showed what they did when they weren't performing. Watching this video made me like the Beatles more.

The Beatles

Today in class we listened to the Beatles' first album Please Please Me and looked over all of their album covers. I prefered the album covers that were more colorful and happy, some of their covers were pretty interesting. I really enjoyed listening to the album, I liked almost every song, I though that the songs that originally written by the Beatles were better, but I also really like twist and shout. The more we learn about the Beatles the more I like them.

What I'm Listening to

Recently I have been listening to The Verve’s album Urban Hymns, I discovered their songs from my brother’s music and I think its okay. A decent amount of the songs on the album aren’t that good, and their voices can be sort of monotone and boring. But the songs that I actually thought were good were really good, I really enjoyed Bittersweet Symphony and Lucky Man, Bittersweet Symphony is one of my favorite songs now. Hopefully I can find some more good songs by them.

Elvis Presley

Yesterday in History of Rock and Roll we learned about Elvis Presley. Prior to class, I really didn’t know much about Elvis, I knew that Elvis was one the greatest musicians ever, he died on the toilet, and I had heard some of his songs and thought that his music was okay, but overrated. I learned that Elvis’ type of music was very new to the people of his time and that they didn’t know what to think of his singing and hip thrusting, no one had ever experienced the way he preformed. I liked some of his songs we heard in class and I still think he is overrated but I understand why so many people admired his music.

I have recently been listening to The Who and I have been enjoying it. Some of the songs that I like are Pinball Wizard, Substitute, Baba O'Riley and You Better You Bet, but there were some that were sort of weird, like Squeeze Box and I can't See for Miles. I look forward to downloading more songs by them.

Of the artist's we listened to on Wednesday, I preferred listening to Jerry Lee Lewis. He seemed to be very interesting, I didn't know he has had 8 wives and possibly killed 3 of them. I enjoyed seeing and hearing him thrash his head back and forth with his hair doing crazy things.

Most of the time I like to listen to music when I'm doing homework, running, in my car, and when I have free time. Right now, I listening to music while doing boring things to make it more fun, and the role it plays is to relax and entertain me.
